Security and Compliance
While at the RSA Conference in San Francisco recently, I had the
opportunity to talk with Tim Rains, a director in Microsoft's
Trustworthy Computing team, about physical security measures and
best practices deployed at our data centers. Security is among the
top concerns for customers worldwide and physical security of data
centers is a frequent topic. The conversation is featured in
a segment on Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Cloud Fundamental
Video Series and provides insights into Microsoft's holistic
approach to physical security that encompasses increasing levels of
security controls from the outside perimeter of our data centers
through to increased levels of controls placed closer to data
assets based on the value of the assets. These measures
include cameras, fences, gates and locked racks which are
implemented based on comprehensive security, privacy and
reliability policies. To view the complete video, please visit this
Trustworthy
Computing blog.
As part of the video series, I also spoke with Tim on the topic
of transparency in
the cloud. In this conversation, Tim and I discuss the need for
partnerships between customers and cloud service providers.
Customers need to know that their cloud provider(s) are being
responsible with the applications and data they entrust to them,
while also being mindful of their requirements and whether they are
compatible with the deployment model(s) they are evaluating.
