Microsoft is committed to reducing our environmental footprint, and over the past two years we continue to meet our goal of becoming carbon neutral. Our approach to meeting that goal, however, continues to evolve. Today, we are announcing another move to make our operations more environmentally sustainable by signing a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for wind energy in Illinois that will be funded in part by proceeds from Microsoft’s carbon fee. Microsoft, Others Partner on Fuel Cell Research with $5 Million Awarded by ARPA-E

Microsoft, Redox Power Systems LLC, the University of Maryland and Trans-Tech Inc. were recently awarded $5 million by the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) to develop transformational fuel cells. IT Pros pick Microsoft’s Software-Defined Networks Monitoring solution DEMon

Microsoft was recognized for its SDN Monitoring DEMon Solution and swept all six leader awards for Market, Price, Performance, Reliability, Service & Support and Innovation this week at the Ethernet Summit in Santa Clara, California. The award was presented by IT Brand Pulse and revealed the results of their annual brand leader surveys conducted in March 2014. The surveys covered Ethernet, SDN, and one other product category. More than one thousand IT Pros were asked which vendors they perceived as the leader in fourteen IT infrastructure product categories. Read More >>

Microsoft Expands Datacenter Presence in Iowa

Last week, the City of West Des Moines announced that Microsoft will expand its datacenter presence in West Des Moines, Iowa, paving the way for one of its Generation 5 cloud-scale datacenters that will enhance reliability and redundancy of our cloud services via software integration. When complete, the datacenter will be one of the largest in the Microsoft portfolio with over one million square feet of colocation and support space. Read More >>
